1. Midjourney announces a full-body ultrasound scanner, not an MRI replacement. Midjourney, known for AI image generation, announced Midjourney Medical on June 17: a full-body ultrasound scanner built with Butterfly Network, aiming for image quality comparable to MRI at 100x the speed. It is not FDA-cleared yet. They are starting with body composition maps that don't require diagnostic clearance, with the first spa planned for San Francisco in late 2027.

2. SpaceX buys Cursor for $60 billion. SpaceX agreed to buy Cursor, the AI coding agent, for $60 billion in an all-stock deal announced June 16. Cursor generates about $4 billion in annualized revenue from developers who use it to write and ship software. It is the largest acquisition of a private AI software company to date.

3. The US forced Anthropic to pull Fable 5 and Mythos 5 offline. Here is what actually happened. On June 12, the US Commerce Department issued an export control directive forcing Anthropic to suspend Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 globally, three days after Fable 5 launched. The trigger was a paper from Amazon security researchers who showed they could get Fable 5 to produce information useful for cyberattacks, which Amazon CEO Andy Jassy raised with White House officials. Anthropic and over 100 cybersecurity leaders, including Luta Security's Katie Moussouris, dispute the "jailbreak" framing and say the same behavior exists in other public models including GPT 5.5. TechCrunch reports the ban was never about a jailbreak: it fits a pattern of political tension between Anthropic and the Trump administration over the company's refusal to allow its AI for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons.
4. GLM-5.2 is the open-weight model that actually competes. Zhipu AI released GLM-5.2 on June 16: a 744-billion-parameter open-weight model with a 1-million-token context window, MIT-licensed, scoring 81.0 on Terminal-Bench 2.1 for coding. The community consensus is that it's the first open-weight model that genuinely competes with proprietary frontier models. Given the Fable 5 shutdown, having a strong open-weight option you control matters more than it did a week ago.
5. Every AI model is predicting the World Cup, and they almost all pick France. The World Cup is happening right now across North America, and the AI community is treating it like a prediction contest. Multiple models (Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek) have been fed team stats, FIFA rankings, and match history to pick winners. Most pick France, Claude picked Argentina, & Gemini picked Spain.
